Beware! Mayor Mike and his rubber stamp council have voted to hook up with Detroit to build the monster dollar sewer that has been plaguing our community for a while. Could it be that Mayor Guido is playing nicey-nicey with Detroit because of a dream of his that maybe someday he could run for Wayne County Executive? And hey, having a Detroit constituency sure would be helpful.
Mayor Michael Guido and his Director of Department of Public Works, Kurt Giberson and city workers should get an A+ for a job well done this Thursday. They handled the snow/ice emergency extremely well. So it just goes to show you that there is some "good" in all of us.
Terry McAuliffe, buddy-buddy of Bill Clinton, and Chairman of the National Democratic Committee just turned a $100,000 investment into $18 million bucks. Seems his pal was president of Global Crossing, the latest giant bankruptcy going around. I think it's interesting to note on this story that the government gave a $400 million loan guarantee to the company, just before they went belly up and McAuliffe got out $18 million richer...he's a very smart investor.
I see where ex-city councilman Doug Thomas got nailed for some ethic violation when he served on the council. My guess is that there is a lot of truth to the allegations that he was getting "special" treatment from the developers of the West Village.
However, when I look at the membership of the Dearborn Ethics Board I get a wee bit nervous, particularly about their impartiality. It looks to me like the board is composed of vested interest city employees and some citizens, like Chairman Vince Bruno, who have been very kind ($$) to Mayor Guido
Now understand I don't think anything illegal is going on here. I'm just wondering, could this be a "get even" move by his honor, Mayor Guido?
Since it opened to the public in September, the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center's entertainment productions have been plagued by low attendance. Reportedly, productions during the first three months of operation lost $75,000.
The 1,201 seat auditorium didn't even draw a full house when admission was free. Upfront fees and related expenses for performances such as Melissa Manchester and Lou Rawls, were subsidized by the city. And there is no accounting for the work hours put in my recreational staffers or utility costs.
On the recreation side of the facility, city officials projected the sales of athletic memberships would bring in $1.32 million. Halfway through the fiscal year, memberships have only hit $318,000. No wonder our Mayor is offering half price memberships to city employees.
How much longer will his honor, Mayor Guido, be able to fool Dearborn voters into paying and paying and paying again, for the monumental glass edifice at Michigan and Greenfield?
Remember that the center was to be funded originally by a $23 million bond that you and I are paying for. Then when the cost went up to $46 million, money was siphoned from senior citizen funds and city projects to fill the gap.

Here's the latest at City Hall! For years, Mayor Guido has pushed for parking on Michigan Avenue. Right? Now he has ordered most doors at City Hall facing Michigan Avenue to be locked "for security reasons." Then a memo goes out changing the story. Now it appears that the cost of special city logo floor mats at the doors, are too expensive and Director of Department of Public Works, Kurt Giberson, needs to cut costs. So he ordered the doors locked and signed "Emergency Exit Only," thereby eliminating a total of 2, count them 2, mats. Meanwhile, 10 to 20 people try coming to the doors to get in, and some of these people are handicapped to boot. Mayor Mikey sure is making City Hall inviting to the residents, isn't he? I'm sure the savings for the two mats also covers Giberson's raise.

City department heads got a nice gift from his honor, the winner, Mayor Michael Guido's "Discretionary" Fund. - No, not the Spaghetti Dinner Fund. This fund is funded by the taxpayers of our great city. And guess what, some department heads got BIG raises. Yep, while lay offs affect many in our town, the Mayor just dolled out some big bucks to all of those that work hard as department heads.
12% went to the Fire Chief, Michael Birrell. While the Department of Spinning, I mean the Director of Public Information, Mary Laundroche, now takes home 76,813 big ones per year, a 28% increase from last year. Remember, puffery is a big biz.
And guess who now makes $101,300 a year? Mark Guido. Yep, the Mayor's assistant. While Santa Guido- I mean Mayor Guido, makes just $123,606 plus bennies. Hey, ribbon cutting is hard work And you gotta admit that the senatorially splendid Guido is a great speaker- one of the best. Plus, his stand up comic schtick is terrific. Make no mistake, our Mayor Guido is an excellent politician and is on his way to bigger and better things. How can you not like him???
